ACTOR PORTRAITS

 DONATION

“It’s much easier, for example, to play a heroin addict and you’re withdrawing – you tear the ceiling off – that’s much easier than it is to come in and say, ‘Hello.’ Or, ‘I love you’. When you judge it in that way, the heavy isn’t as difficult.”

JAMES STEWART

“It really costs me a lot emotionally to watch myself on screen. I think of myself, and feel like I’m quite young, and then I look at this old man with the baggy chins and the tired eyes and the receding hairline and all that.”

GENE HACKMAN

“If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. It’s the hard that makes it great.”

TOM HANKS

“You have to just dive over the edge. You haven`t got time to mess about.”

RALPH FIENNES

“Don’t think for a moment that I’m really like any of the characters I’ve played. I’m not. That’s why it’s called ‘acting’.”

LEONARDO DECAPRIO

“Is Hollywood the cruelest city in the world? Well, it can be. New York can be that, too. You can be a Broadway star here one night, and something happens, and out .. nobody knows you on the street. They forget you ever lived. It happens in Hollywood, too.”

    Hi,
I want to make photomosaics with some of your photos.
As usual, I’ll do a reference to the original photo. You allowed me to do?

  18. […] Widely agreed to be one of the greatest actors in film history and perhaps best known as the first black person to win the ‘Best Actor’ Oscar (for his role inLilies of the Field), Poitier is something of a legend. He successfully challenged the media’s gross characterizations of black men in the movies of the 50′s and 60′s and looked damn good while doing it. Two years ago at the age of eighty-one, Barack Obama awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom for all around awesomeness. (Source) […]

    Hi,

What a fantastic site you have created, full of just the best stars of their generations. As an artist, would it be possible please to use some of your images in my paintings please. I would credit you when they’re completed as the copyright owner, thank you in anticipation.

    Regards,
    Russell

  21. chaplin says:

Feel free, Russell, by all means. As I’ve told a few others in the past, it’s probably best to stick to the older images, as they’re mostly way out of copyright by now. Anything from the classic periods through the 60’s should be fine, but best not use those from the past few decades, unless it’s not for profit. I’m an artist myself, please do show me what you come up with, I’d love to have a look, Russell.

  22. Russell Lee says:

Thank you, I will take note of your comments about using the older pictures to work on, you just have so many to choose from!! Will let you see the result when done anyway, thanks again.

    Regards,
    Russell

  23. I really adore your site ! How do you manage to have such big photos ?
